CHNW and Covid-19

Anti-Racism Declaration

As a richly diverse provider of housing for college students from all walks of life and from around the world, CHNW stands in solidarity with the communities we serve in expressing our grief to those impacted by current and historical racism. Within our housing communities, including all residents, all employees, vendors, and partners, we are not only committed to addressing anti-Blackness, racism, xenophobia, and other forms of systemic oppression, but changing our own practices to reflect the needs of our diverse resident and staff population.

CHNW is committed to affect change within our organization, beginning with affirming the following:

  • Racism is a humanitarian crisis.
  • The intersectional identities of our residents and staff are not monolithic.
  • Striving to be an antiracist organization requires life-long work that includes pushing through discomfort and internalized bias.
  • We recognize our privilege and position within systemic, institutional racial oppression and see it as being incumbent upon us as a nonprofit organization and as humanitarian-oriented individuals to commit to antiracism in all aspects of our work

We are committed to transparent, action-oriented change in collaboration with our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council, our Board-appointed Racial Equity Committee, and through open communication with the students, residents, and staff that we serve.

We will continue addressing institutional barriers and related inequities as we remain committed to supporting fair and affordable student housing. We are not only committed to examining our own practices, resources, policies, and behavior continuously: we are committed to speaking up when we witness racism in our community and making informed business partnership decisions. We will hold ourselves accountable to adjusting our own actions whenever we encounter racism, discrimination, or oppression – and we invite our community to hold us accountable, too.
