4 Tips to Help You Stick to Your New Year’s Resolution
New Years Eve a night of toasts, friends, glitter, and resolutions. “I’ll get healthy this year,” or “I’ll save money this year,” or “only A’s and B’s for 2015.” Easier said than done. Last year I was going to run a marathon….did I? Nope. The only marathon I did was on Netflix. This year will be different though – I know, I know, we’ve all said that – but here are 4 tips that will help you (and me), stick to this New Year’s Resolution (whatever it may be).
1. Write it Down: I think this one is a bit obvious, but I had an old supervisor who would tell me “if you don’t plan then you plan to fail.” 2015 will not be a year of fails for you! Buy a notebook specifically for your resolution(s), and explain how you are going to achieve your goals this year. Write out what made you start, and journal your journey.
2. Share: Yes, sharing is still important as an adult. Tell your friends and family about your resolutions. Start a Facebook page about your progress, or a blog, or an Instagram. Anything that will keep you motivated. It’s surprising how inspiring a simple, yet genuine “way to go” can be. Let your friends and family be a part of your success!
3. Enlist a Friend: Things are easier when you’re not the only one suffering for the cause. If you want to quit smoking; find a friend who wants the same thing for 2015. If you want to lose weight; find a workout buddy. Whatever resolution you’re trying to resolve this year, chances are, you have a friend who wants the same thing. Help each other out.
4. Rewards Program: It’s awesome when you get all the stamps on your Dutch Bro’s card and get a free coffee! This year create a reward program for yourself. Set small goals throughout the year, and every time you reach a new small goal, reward yourself with a small yet lovely treat. Remember that this is a process and maybe a long one. Happiness is key in your progress, so treat yourself every once in a while!
