Connery Place Apartments to Provide Affordable Housing and Support to Students

College Housing Northwest is excited to announce the acquisition of the Connery Place Apartments, located one block from the Portland Community College Southeast Campus, near the intersection of 82nd and Division Avenues. The purchase of this property was completed in partnership with the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) and is unique in that it will provide approximately 20 permanently affordable apartments to college students between the ages of 18 to 24-years-old without the use of HUD or other traditional, low-income housing financing mechanisms.

Connery Place is home to 72 apartments housed in 12 free-standing buildings on two acres in Portland’s Montavilla neighborhood. The apartments are one and two-bedroom floor plans, ranging in size from 520 to 700 square feet. The apartment community offers amenities such as covered bike storage and proximity to several public transit lines, making it ideal for students.

College Housing Northwest created the Affordable Rents for College Students program (ARCS), to work with local colleges to provide subsidized housing and a highly supportive environment focused on student success for students that are housing insecure or experiencing houselessness. The program aims to improve GPA and graduation rates among participants.

Connery Place represents a creative and diligent collaboration between multiple constituents investing in individuals who are actively pursuing their independence and achieving their personal goal of earning a diploma.
